 Friends, let’s walk together for a lifetime——“2025 Sfilmmaker Filmmakers New Years Eve” concluded successfully


On January 21, 2025, on the eve of the Chinese New Year, the "2025 Sfilmmaker Filmmakers New Year's Eve" event hosted by Shao Studios Media Production (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and its Sfilmmaker Global Film Festival submission platform came to a successful conclusion in Beijing.

The event was themed "Friends, Walk Together for a Lifetime", bringing together many elites in the film and television industry. In the interweaving of light and shadow, they reviewed the achievements of the past year, looked forward to the new journey of Chinese films in 2025, and talked about new opportunities for the development of the film industry.

As a global film festival submission platform, Sfilmmaker has built a platform for filmmakers to communicate, share and look forward to the future. Together with many dream filmmakers and their works, it has witnessed countless glorious moments and injected new vitality into the international development of Chinese films. This event aims to gather the strength of filmmakers and promote Chinese films to continue to move forward to a higher international stage.


The event invited many film and television industry practitioners, including producers, directors, screenwriters, actors, photographers, etc. The star-studded lineup was strong. Young director Li Jiahe, well-known director Zhang Luoping, famous producer and the fifth director of Beijing Youth Film Festival Zou Wei, Associate Professor, Screenwriter, Director Zhang Bin of Communication University of China, Teacher Xiang wang of Beijing Film Academy, independent creator and documentary director Duan Tongke, and Shao Studios Films, Sfilmmaker founder, director Ms. Shao XinyingJoanna Shao and other important guests attended the event.


Wonderful sessions light up the film night

The screening of two A-level international film festival award-winning films and the post-screening exchange session were a highlight of this event. The Cannes Film  Festival award-winning short film "Somewhere" was screened first. In the post-screening exchange, young director Li Jiahe and director Shao XinyingJoanna Shao shared with the audience the story and inspiration behind the film's creation, as well as the short film's experience in participating in international film festivals.

Director Li Jiahe revealed that the entire crew, including the actors, consisted of only five people, and all the actors were non-professional actors. The filming cost was only about 5,000 yuan. In order to make the actors' performances more natural and lifelike, the characters' language was deliberately chosen to be the local dialect of the actors' hometowns. Although it is a short film with a very low budget, the quality of the film is quite masterful and artistic.


Director Li Jiahe, who has a background in fine arts, studied photography in college, and is naturally sensitive to images and lenses, uses unique image composition and lens language to narrate and express the inner world of the characters. In a conversation with the special host, Director Shao XinyingJoanna Shao, Director Li Jiahe also said that when he was creating the film, he would first look for a shooting location, and then create the play based on the results of the location survey. At the same time, he would randomly adjust and modify the script according to the changes on the scene.

The short film "Somewhere" won the second prize of La Cinef at the 75th Cannes Film Festival. As the darling of the Cannes Film Festival, director Li Jiahe talked about his experience of participating in the Cannes Film Festival and the bonus rewards he received at the film festival. He also shared his plans for the shooting of his new work. He plans to continue to create several short films before making a feature film.

"HABITAT", which won the Best Cinematography Award in the Asian Newcomer category at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival, also had an exciting screening and post-screening discussion. Director Zhang Luoping shared the film's creative process and shooting experience in a conversation with director Shao XinyingJoanna Shao, interpreted the work from a unique perspective, and discussed with the audience the film's theme, character setting, and the aesthetic charm of light and shadow.

The film explores love, family, gender relations and the obsession with one's past bottom line between the two sexes. In a conversation with director Zhang Luoping, he vividly summarized the story of the film: a metaphor for the marriage between a piano and a cello, in which a violin intervenes, the cello falls in love with the violin, and eventually leaves the piano.

During the question-and-answer session, guest director Pang Guolin said that the film had many foreshadowings and that no matter how many times you watch it, you will have different interpretations. He also praised the wonderful performance of the heroine who made her debut in a film. In addition, a guest suggested that if the film is planned to be released in commercial theaters, it is hoped that it will be categorized and repositioned as a detective film, which may be more attractive.

     The screening of the two award-winning films allowed the audience to appreciate the elegance of Chinese films on the international stage. Then, in the "2024 Sfilmmaker Annual Award-winning Films and Filmmakers Recognition Session", five directors and their works were recognized, including Jiang Qinmin's film "A Poem In Love", Dou Xinping's film "THE MISSING FIANCéE", He Shaowei's short film "Wake Up With You", Zhang Bin's film/screenwriter "The Ferris Wheel In Memory", and Guo Guanghui's short film "Revelation Of AI Painting".This recognition is an affirmation and encouragement of the efforts of filmmakers in the past year, and it will inspire more film creators to continue their efforts in the new year and create more excellent works.

Hand in hand, welcome the new 2025

As another important part of this event, Sfilmmaker founder Shao XinyingJoanna Shao gave a wonderful guest keynote speech. Looking back at 2024, Sfilmmaker signed contracts with more than 100 international film festivals, including in-depth cooperation with 14 A level film festivals and more than 20 Class B level film festivals. Among the 336 film works settled in the Sfilmmaker platform, 120 films were shortlisted, 66 films won awards, the films were submitted to more than 10 film festivals in a row, with a shortlisting rate of 90%, and 28 films were distributed domestically and internationally.

At the same time, Director Shao XinyingJoanna Shao also shared the "2025 100 Films Plan" and "Film Festival Overseas Tour Plan". In 2025, Sfilmmaker will exclusively sign contracts with 200 international film festivals, and recommend them with ABCD level film festivals overseas, supporting 100 top works to enter the international film market, and also released the FilmWave short film shooting support plan.

In the "Film Festival Overseas Tour Plan", in February, Sfilmmaker will deeply participate in the 47th Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. During this period, Director Shao XinyingJoanna Shao will meet and exchange with the San Sebastian International Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, Torino International Film Festival, Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival, Locarno Film Festival, Warsaw International Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, etc. After that, the Sfilmmaker team will also participate in the 78th Cannes Film Festival in May, the 27th Shanghai International Film Festival in June, the 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in July, the 81st Venice International Film Festival in August, and the 73rd San Sebastian International Film Festival in September.






The event kicked off with a wonderful performance of the opening dance "Beautiful Mythology". Performer Mia added a touch of romance and fantasy to the movie night with her graceful dance. During the event, the martial arts performance "Shaolin Little Tiger Goose" directed by Guan Lijun showed the charm of Chinese traditional culture with its exquisite martial arts skills and wonderful performances, adding strength and passion to the movie night. Finally, all the guests sang the filmmakers' song "Friends", pushing the atmosphere of the event to a climax. The melody of "Friends walk together for a lifetime" symbolizes the deep friendship between filmmakers.
